Permit Software

Dear Management Doctor:

Our Development Services Division is looking into project management software options to help manage scheduling for the large number of discretionary applications that come through our office. We already have a permit tracking system, but we need a system with which we can actually project milestones and other critical path items. Does anyone have any experience they can share with MS Project or any other similar software?

Thanks,

Bill Jacobs

Dear Bill,

I don't know what kind of permit software you are currently using but the better systems will do what you are requesting. As a first step, I would check with your vendor. We have recently added an excellent technology sub to our crew who is great at solving problems like this. If you would like, give me a call and we will put you in touch with him. Let's see if some of our readers also have ideas on this.

In regards to Mr. Bill Jacobs' inquiry, I recommend Zoning Analyst. It's an extension to ESRI's ArcGIS platform that was developed by Geographic Information Services, Inc. (www.gis-services.com). It's designed specifically for zoning administration, but not building codes.
